The Institute will arrange courses to provide educational opportunities for Rotarians identified by their clubs as potential leaders.

Rotary needs a constant influx of leaders as club officers, etc. change every year. It is difficult at club level to learn enough about the exciting world of Rotary with its 1.2 million members in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Furthermore, leadership skills in a voluntary organisation are often different from business leadership skills. It is important that club leaders have every opportunity for education because the success or failure of our clubs depends in large part on the quality of their leaders.

The Institute offers a leadership course in three full day parts (Parts I, II, III). Those completing each part are eligible for the next part. The courses are designed to provide Rotary knowledge and to develop leadership skills for voluntary organisations. Some examples of course sessions include, “Rotary Beyond the Club”. “The Rotary Foundation” (2 parts), “Membership Development and Retention” (2 parts), “Leadership” (4 parts), “Creating Hands On Service Projects”, “Vocational Service”, “International Service”, “Analysing a Rotary Club”, “Creative Service”, “Public Relations”, “Public Speaking” and other subjects.

Marketing

“A bird doesn’t sing because it has the answer, it sings because it has the song.”
In Rotary we might not have all the answers but we certainly have a great song.

Our Vision

“To provide the Rotary Clubs within our District with contemporary marketing strategies and practical ideas to enhance the image of Rotary, making us more relevant within our community.”

DISTRICT MEMBERSHIP GOALS 2008-09

1.
A leadership role in marketing the image of Rotary throughout District 9800.
2.
Improve both internal and external communications of the Rotary clubs within our District.
3.
Provide a unified identity and strategy for Rotary clubs within our District to promote Rotary to both local and the international communities.
4.
Enable clubs to present and promote a consistent, positive and salient image of Rotary which enhances both members’ and the public’s perceptions of the organisation.
5.
Facilitate achievement of strategic objectives aimed at attracting and increasing membership and public support for projects.
6.
Provide communications strategies enabling Rotary clubs within out District to leverage support from new and existing contacts who may be able to provide support and partnership to Rotary projects.

The 2008/09 Marketing Team

In the coming year, the Marketing Team has been extended to enable us to reach the District’s ambition to provide our stakeholders with sound PR, communications and marketing strategies. District will provide a particular focus on Marketing Innovation using social networking mechanisms.

By continuing to establish firm and fruitful links outside of Rotary, we can more easily meet our marketing aims of strong membership, interesting meetings, relevant projects and encouragement of active service, whether Vocational, Community or International. Hence Marketing has developed a focus on aiding each club in reaching external audiences as well as existing members – here is a little of what you can expect:

Project Shout!

Project Shout! will continue to be a major initiative of D9800 Marketing during 2008/09. In brief, Project Shout! is:
  • A major billboard advertising campaign, supported by marketing and events.
  • Aimed at attracting target audiences to Rotary.
  • Based on the consistent theme – “People Like You & Me.”
  • A joint venture with corporate supporters.

Marketing Innovation

Innovation is at the heart of Rotary International – we are the world’s first service organisation.

Many thousands of Rotarians are constantly working on innovative projects at club, cluster, district, zone, and international levels.
We need to focus on innovation within our district marketing program that communicates the power of Rotary to make a difference, not just locally, but nationally.

It’s not about working harder. Its about creating innovative projects with the scale to make a real difference to the life of our nation, leveraging the aggregated power of Rotarians in Australia and inspiring a new generation to become involved and provide the energy and capacity to ‘get it done’.
