GOVERNANCE

District Governor's Office
|
The Governor is an administration officer of Rotary International and is directly responsible to the Board of RI for the administration of the District. The Governor may appoint as many District Officers and Committees as considered necessary to assist. All District appointments, other than District Governor and Council on Legislation Delegate, are made by the District Governor and coincide with the Governor's term of office.
In the temporary absence of the District Governor, the District Secretary, in consultation with the Assistant Governors’ Representative, may promulgate decisions on the Governor's behalf on urgent matters. The District Governor is the Chairperson of the District Board, the District 9800 Relief Institution fund and the DGN Nominating Committee, and together with the District Governor Elect and the District Governor Nominee, is an ex-officio member of every other Committee in the District.

District Board
|
The District Board has the general control and management of the administration of the affairs, property and funds of the District. It assists the District Governor to manage the financial affairs of the District in accordance with a budget ratified by Club Presidents Elect at the District Assembly. The cost per member for the District fees and Rotary International fees, insurance and magazine charges are set at the District Assembly. The District Board meets on a monthly basis. In accordance with the Rules and Statement of Purposes of Rotary International District 9800 Inc. as approved at the 2007 District Conference of District 9800 Inc.; the membership of the District Board shall be 6 in number comprising the District Governor, the immediate Past District Governor, the District Governor Elect, the District Governor Nominee when elected, the District Secretary and the District Treasurer.
The District Governor at his or her absolute discretion may appoint District Officers to join the District Board.
No person shall be a member of the District Board for more than one year in the same position, except by approval of the Club Presidents for the year of office in which it is proposed that this rule be varied.

District Management Group
|
In the 1997-1998 year the Board of Rotary International endorsed individual Districts to devise their own Leadership Plan. The Board reserved the right to approve the Plan. The Plan submitted by District 9800 received approval. The features of the approved Plan for our District are set out on the following pages. The essential reasoning behind the Plan is one of encouraging larger, more active, more involved Districts.
The District Leadership Plan enables Districts to change the Governor's emphasis from Club visitation to exploring and developing new means of meeting the District's needs. It allows Rotary to project a more vital image by enabling leaders who are still active in their vocation to assume the role of Governor.

District Training Committee
|
The District Training Committee is responsible for organising all training in the District in a professional manner, involving Assistant Governors, Presidents Elect, Secretaries Elect, District Directors, District Assembly, and new member education seminars. It is also responsible for the future development of District Leaders.
Working closely with the District Governor Elect, the Training Committee has called on the services of very experienced Rotarians within our District to present at the various training events conducted prior to the start of the 2007-2008 year. All presenters have worked within the framework set by the team which has emphasised more interactive involvement with those being trained.
Training sessions have used the latest techniques which incorporate multi-media, active input from trainees and workshop discussion groups; this has been very effective in achieving the aims of the training sessions and assessed by the participants as a very stimulating and enjoyable way to learn.
On-going training for both new and not-so-new Rotarians will be conducted during 2007-2008 using a variety of experienced members from our District to ensure that learning about Rotary is an illuminating, inspiring and enjoyable experience.
