DISTRICT GOVERNOR'S MESSAGE OF INTRODUCTION TO ROTARY
|
The magic of Rotary is that it allows ordinary people to achieve extraordinary things. For over 100 years, ordinary people around the world have been joining Rotary so that the power of one unites with the power of many to bring about exceptional change in the world.

We care. We share. We all gain.

The philosophy that “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” is no truer than in Rotary International ... an organisation whose success has come about by doing more together than as individuals. However, without individuals, Rotary could not exist as a “whole” and it could not play such an important role on the world stage.
As we move into a new Rotary year, rising to the challenge that our Rotary International President, “DK” Lee, has set for every club to increase its membership by 10% must be a major focus. Each club must have sufficient members so that the club as a “whole” can have a more powerful impact on the communities it serves through critically needed projects and activities.
We have a great story to tell. It is an exciting and impelling one – and one that I know will inspire others to join in our efforts to bring about peace, harmony and wellbeing to the world through “Service Above Self.”
The ‘internationality’ of Rotary sets our great organisation apart. And through this, Rotarians can be involved at so many levels. They can support our Rotary Foundation; they can counsel an Ambassadorial Scholar; they can host a Group Study Exchange team member or a Youth Exchange Student; or they can become involved in a Rotary Australia World Community Service project in a neighbouring country. We are across projects involving the aged, environment, youth, welfare, health, poverty and vocational development. And, it’s not just at a global level that Rotarians can be involved. Just as important are the local projects in these areas that aid our communities in so many wonderful ways. The opportunities are there – we just need to seize them, talk about them and encourage others to become a part of our ever-increasing momentum to really make a difference in and to our world. Added to this, is the fantastic fellowship we enjoy and enduring friendships we form.
I appeal to every Rotarian in District 9800 to “spread the word;” to be a friend to all other Rotarians; to make new members feel welcome; to involve new members quickly in your club projects; and to treat them as if they have long been an important member of your club.
Your District Leadership Team is there to help you with every aspect of your club’s administrative and service activities - each one of us is eager to support the success of your club as together and as a “whole”, ‘we make dreams real.’participate! Never underestimate the impact of one person when that individual is committed to, is passionate about and has total belief in his or her goal. Paul Harris might not have envisioned anyone in Australia carrying out service 103 years later in the name of the club he founded, but we are here today still committed to the ideals he engendered. Let’s look to what we can do today to influence a better tomorrow.
